Week 2 - MBA 6601 - Todd Kelsey's Surfing the Tsunami

 Artificial Intelligence is on the rise and there are a number of uses that are already being implemented. The usage of artificial intelligence has increased due to our society also evolving. The most interesting part about A.I is that the growth of A.I is solely dependent on our understanding and innovations with technology. In other words, as our knowledge of technology grows, so will the advancement of the products we make. One specific use of Artificial Intelligence is to be able to make an easy automated method of completing a task that can be seen as tedious if done manually. 

It seems useful because of how there are constant improvements of A.I, and yet the same tools being made to aid humans are also operating so good that they are replacing humans. The best example of AI systems are the same devices that we use to wake up, make calls, and surf the web. Our phones are one of the most powerful A.I devices because they are constantly growing and  still remains the most used device that involves Artificial Intelligence. These devices really put the ’Smart’ in Smartphone.

These smartphones are adapting to your likes, your search histories, tracking eye-movement , and more. 

Another example is the trending self-driving cars made by Google and Tesla. The way Google and Tesla were able to advance in this category was because they were ahead in their development of Artificial Intelligence. This is no surprise as Tesla and Google have been the ringleaders of A.I development. With years of experience and dedicated developers that are constantly seeking improvement in their AI systems, and the results are them being able to build vehicles with the capabilities to drive themselves without an operater. 

I see the development of A.I as a new beginning into the more technological age of humans. Though the topic is interesting, it still erupts fear of a world where artificial intelligence replaces certain human tasks. What if ride-sharing apps started to implement artificial intelligence? What about if restaurants started using A.I’s to serve us? . 

After reading chapters 1 & 2 of Surfing the Tsunami by Todd Kelsey, I would agree with how Professor Kelsey states that the only way to live in a future where Artificial Intelligence has a presence is through learning how to code. They even mention that just a broad understanding of code will make such a difference in the near future.
